Fall is in the air. In other parts of the country that means looking forward to changing leaves and sipping hot chocolates by the fire. But, here in South Florida, as the calendar flips to October, that means looking forward to the end of Hurricane Season, and the start of Boat Show Season!
If you have a luxury motor yacht that is up for sale, and you plan to show her at the upcoming Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show, or one of the area’s other marine showcases, here are few things you need to know.
The Devil is in The Details
As you might imagine, at a boat show, first impression is everything, and that means details, details, and more details. With a limited time for potential buyers to inspect each vessel, and with the sheer number of yachts to look at, it is imperative to put your best foot forward.
Buyers form their opinion of your boat’s overall condition, rightly or wrongly, based on small imperfections and minor details. Basically, if they notice one thing that they are not satisfied with — it can kill a potential sale.
Think of it like “curb appeal” in real estate. When a potential buyer sees a clean and well-maintained boat with shiny woodwork and sparkling decks, they are likely to want to see more.
Yacht Management Can Help You Prepare
Florida Yacht Management (FYM) has been managing, maintaining and preparing boats for sale for many years. FYM will make every effort to see that your luxury motor yacht shows well. Prior to exhibiting any vessel at a boat show, we prepare by paying special attention to the following:
- Teak treatment
- Fresh wax and stainless polish
- Cleaning all lockers and bilges to be dry
- Emptying and treating gray and black water tanks to prevent any undesirable smells
- Tidying lines and fenders to improve overall look of the vessel
- Putting staterooms in show condition with displays on each bed and fresh flowers in each head
- Staging interior with high end goods to improve overall experience
- Full detail of the Engine Room to show that the boat has been well maintained and is ready to go
Any other special requests can be attended to by the request of the owner. During the show, each morning FYM will give another full detail, to clean from the showings of the previous day.
Basically, any potential buyers that come on board your boat for sale, will do so envisioning that the boat is already theirs. They will open cabinets, turn nobs, etc. We understand this, and will also make sure all electronics are in tip top shape, and all storage spaces are used efficiently. We know how to add just enough personal items, such as a few books, or items of clothing, to make the boat look homey and inviting, but still maintain an open, and uncluttered appearance.
Again, it’s all about the little details that can make your experience of selling at a boat show a big success!
