To be a luxury yacht owner means you are a high-net worth individual with an appreciation for the finer things in life. Why not take your yacht ownership to the next level, and also solve the often difficult challenge of finding dockage, by purchasing your own private island!

Boat International Magazine recently produced a list of the Top 5 private islands in the world that are currently available for sale to the uber-rich!

Buck Island, British Virgin Islands

As we have reported recently, the islands of the Eastern Caribbean, and particularly the British Virgin Islands, are becoming increasingly popular among superyacht owners. Why just visit the BVI, when you can have one of your own? Buck Island, a 43-acre paradise, just off the southeast coast of Tortola, is the quintessential Caribbean island with beautiful sea views and crystal clear waters. As the owner of Buck Island you will be in good company, with neighbors such as Richard Branson and Larry Page. The property also includes a beachfront estate on the Tortola mainland, with two docks, and a three bedroom residence with gate house on over an acre of land. The price for Buck Island is unpublished, and available upon application with the listing agent, Knight Frank.

Trump Island, Washington

No, our new POTUS does not currently own this island, nor does he actually have anything to do with it, but that has not stopped the impact of his “brand,” from influencing its sticker price! The list price for Trump Island rose to $8,750,000 the week of his inauguration. It may not be the White House, Trump Plaza, or Mar-a-Largo, but what you will get is a 29.4-acre estate, the heart of which is a 7,000 square foot six bedroom home with wine cellar, bar, large kitchen and many fabulous entertaining spaces. Elsewhere on the estate is a caretaker’s cottage, boat house, dock and green house.

Trump Island is listed for sale with Windermere Real estate for $8,750,000.

Darby Island, Bahamas

South Florida Yacht owners are no strangers to cruising to the Bahamas, so why not put down some roots there? You can, by purchasing the 554 acre Darby Island, which is  located in the Exuma Cays, around 95 miles from Nassau, and boasts over 4 miles of white sandy beaches. The only development on the island consists of a 7,000 square foot castle built in 1938 by former owner, Sir Baxter. The castle has the potential to be transformed into a stunning residence, while the island could also support an airstrip up to 5,000 feet in length.

Darby Island is listed for sale with Coldwell Banker for a cool $39 million.

Kanacea Island, Fiji

For those that wish their private islands a bit more secluded, there is Kanacea Island. Kanacea Island is part of the Lau islands in Fiji and is comprised of seven volcanic summits rising to nearly 900 feet. The 3,085 acre island is an ideal buy for well-heeled snorkelers and scuba divers, with its soft sandy beach that surrounds a large lagoon with deep water access to a jetty, and reefs ringing the island attracting an abundance of marine life.  There is very little development on the island, which means you can define you own vision of living on this out-of-the-way paradise.

Kanacea Island is listed for sale with Vladi Private Islands for $26 million.

Motu Tane, Tahiti

If there is one word that is synonymous with paradise and delectable decadence, it’s Tahiti. Motu Tane, is located just off the coast of Bora Bora. It is known for being the former home of intrepid explorer, Paul-Emile Victor. More recently, the island has been owned by cosmetics giant, Francois Nars, who enlisted Christian Liagre to transform the island into a luxury retreat complete with dense coconut groves that discreetly shade stylish accommodations for 20. At a manageable 9.56 acres and surrounded by the sparkling waters and pristine beaches of French Polynesia, this is a deserted island with luxe appeal.

Motu Tane is listed for sale with Sotheby’s International Realty for $42 million.
