When you think of the word “superstar,” what usually comes to mind? If you are like most people, it’s a celebrity that has been prominently featured in films or on TV.

The same can be said about superyachts. Sure, it is size, luxury amenities and superior design and performance that factor into earning the “super” title, but, here are five superyachts that we love because they have been “superstars,” of the Silver Screen.

Galeocerdo – Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson may have had the top billings in the Michael Bay thriller, The Island, but the real star was the motoryacht, Galeocerdo. This futuristic WallyPower 118 superyacht is literally the stuff of dreams, as McGregor’s character Lincoln Six Echo has a recurring dream where he wins the lottery and escapes his mundane life aboard a luxury yacht that for the movie was renamed Renovatio. But when his dreams come true, he discovers a sinister plan that must be stopped.

Lady M Lady M is a very well-known superyacht, and is available for charter to celebrities and other high-net worth individuals, but her popularity may have increased ever since she co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013’s, The Wolf of Wall Street. When DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort hits the big time, he splashes out on the luxury yacht and names it Naomi after his second wife, who was played by Margot Robbie in the film.

Thumper – Is probably one of the most recent examples of a superyacht to play a starring role on screen. She was featured in 2016’s Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie. In the film, Edina (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy (Joanna Lumley) flee to the South of France after a fatal accident involving British supermodel Kate Moss. The 132 foot Sunseeker yacht serves as a hideout for the dubious pair.

Casino Royale – The superyacht M3 starred in the remake of the James Bond thriller Casino Royale and has now been renamed after the film. Interestingly enough the film “co-starred” another famous yacht, the Spirit 54’ Soufrière, which is arguably one of Spirit’s most iconic yachts.

Ocean Emerald – When American film director Ericson Core decided to remake the 1991 extreme sports movie Point Break, he turned to the world of superyachts to give his 2015 update an extra coating of glitz. Ocean Emerald, the 135-footer from Rodriquez Yachts, was used as a key filming location, with a skateboarding ramp fitted to the bow, for some spectacular stunts.
